The Role: This role encompasses designing electro-mechanical assemblies from concept to volume production while demonstrating project management and mentoring abilities. As such, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for delivering projects to shipping products and understands design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) concepts associated with electronic products. Considering their experience and familiarity with the manufacturing environment, the right candidate guides a variety of members from different teams in the manufacturing process. They are also the point person for everything that touches the physical aspects of Grass Valley products. Primary responsibilities of the role include:
Design and develop mechanical enclosures and panels for production switcher applications.
Detailed mechanical design work, thermal simulations, sampling trials, assembly trials, and reliability testing in line with the overall project plan.
Analysis and resolution of any technical issues raised through trials, testing, reviews and/or through manufacturing.
Prepare engineering documents, manuals, and drawings.
Prepare bill of material and raise purchase requisition for parts and other related products.
Provide data to support industrial design (ID) and mechanical concepts.
Maintain and service production needs during the life of the product.
Participate in the conception and improvement of all practices and processes involving the work of the industrial design team.
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or similar degree or technical field
4+ years of experience in designing products in an engineering project environment
Experience and understanding of thermal management is an asset
Expert in the design and manufacturing of electronic products
Knowledge of product lifecycle management systems (PLM)
Experienced with 3D CAD systems – SolidWorks or SolidEdge
Creative problem solving
Ability to conceptualize, illustrate and document mechanical parts and assemblies
Knowledge of design and fabrication of electronic cards
Attention to detail and motivation to pursue design challenges to an outstanding resolution.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate efficiently with management, colleagues and suppliers
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with EMC compliance and enclosure design for RF electronics
Experience with sheet metal design / modeling for electronic enclosures
Experience with complex user interface designs containing multiple displays and controls
SolidEdge CAD tools experience to some degree
Nice to have:
Eager to leverage current skillset and develop a career in the media technology space
Able to utilize strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional multi-site teams, including other mechanical engineers, hardware engineers, software engineers, QA engineers, and project managers
